BERLIN INTRODUCTION

Berlin had modest beginnings as a trading centre in the 13th century, growing into a European powerhouse that hogged the 20th century stage.

In the past century, Berlin has undergone many identity shifts, but today the reunited city of Berlin is once again the capital of a federal Germany and has evolved into a dynamic, sexy and creative city.

Berlin is now the heart of modern Germany, with a stoic beat that echoes through grand public buildings, glorious museums and theatres, urbane restaurants, bustling pubs and raucous nightclubs.

It's a city that thrives on change and that has made a virtue out of reinventing itself.

Since reunification in 1990 structures of steel and glass now tower over streets where before only piles of rubble once lay, and parks and gardens are again lush.

The City’s gleaming new focal point is the massive Hauptbahnhof main station, located nearby the Reichstag and government buildings.

Berlin now ranks among the world’s leading event destination cities, hosting hundreds of top international trade fairs and congresses every year.
